B Tech Hons


About the Programme

Besides the regular B.Tech. programme, a B.Tech.(Honours) is now available to the students admitted in 2014-15 or later. Through this Honours programme, the students are encouraged to overreach and achieve marketable skills. The students opting for the programme will be required to complete one project in every semester from the fourth to the seventh semester. These projects would be industry-relevant projects that would develop confidence in the student to attack real-life problems. 

The following is an indicative list of areas in which projects may be undertaken:
B. Tech. (Honours) in Civil Engineering:
·         Structural Engineering
·         Environmental Engineering
·         Geotech Engineering
·         Water Resource Engineering
Operational Details
1.       Students will be eligible to join the Honours programme if they have a minimum CGPA of 7.0 (out of 10) at the end of third semester, without any backlog.
2.       The student will complete one PROJECT every semester from fourth to seventh semester (total of 4 projects, each of 4 credits) in addition to her/his regular courses of study. These projects will be called H1, H2, H3 and H4 Honours Projects, in order.
3.       Each project will be guided by a senior faculty expert.
4.       The student will get the Honours degree only if he/she maintains an over-all CGPA of 7.0 in these 16 honours-credits, and also in all remaining credits of the programme.
5.       The B. Tech student willing to register for Honours programme in fourth semester will apply to Dean SET through his/her HoD on a form available with OSD, SET.
6.       The student, if permitted to register by Dean SET, will be required to pay a project fee of Rs. 5000/- every semester.

TERM PAPER GUIDELINES AND DEADLINES



  1. Select a broad subject area of your interest from the courses that are available to you in the current term: Jan 30
  2. Select of Supervisor from the faculty teaching in your section: Jan 30
  3. Submit the topic and the supervisor name to the section co-ordinator. If this is not done within the specified time, on or before the last date, a penalty of 10 marks shall be imposed. : Feb 1
  4. You shall be given three weeks time to source material on the selected topic, understand the topic and submit a synopsis. If the synopsis is not submitted, you loose another 10 marks.: Feb 23
  5. Get the same approved by your supervisor and get his signature on the synopsis. Keep a copy with you and submit another copy to the supervisor: Feb 26
  6. You will get another two weeks to submit the rough draft of the report. If you fail to submit the draft report, you loose another 20 marks: Mar 18
  7. The report shall be evaluated by your supervisor and shall be returned back with the comments, within next two weeks (maximum). : Mar 31
  8. You are supposed to submit the final draft of the report within a week's time of getting back the evaluated report. If this is not submitted, you loose 20 more marks.: Apr 8
  9. Prepare a presentation on your topic and present the same to the panel of examiners (supervisor and another faculty member. The date shall be informed to you by the supervisor. If the presentation is not done on the date specified date, you stand to loose another 10 marks.: Date shall be announced (Expected date: last week of teaching)
  10. Note: One faculty teaching in your section shall be taking a maximum of 10-12 students under him/ her, not more.
  11. Total marks for the Term Paper is 100 (60 internal and 40 external).

REGISTRATION FOR WORKSHOP ON VIRTUAL LAB FOR SURVEYING

Students who are interested in attending the Workshop on Virtual Lab on Surveying are requested to give their names by 21st January 2016. The workshop will be held on 22nd January 2016. The venue and the timing of the workshop will be conveyed to you during registration. Kindly submit your names in my cabin at Room no-112-Block 3.
