Hello students,

Hello Students,

Attached is an updated instruction plan of our course. The document contains our weekly lecture topics, the main course book (with relevant page numbers) for our topics.

You may want to buy the reference book, although it is not REALLY required for the course. You can use any introductory fluid mechanics book for your course. You may find one in our university library.

Term Paper guidelines and deadlines

TERM PAPER

3^rd and 5^th term students, Civil Engineering

The third and fifth term students have a course called as "term paper". I am elaborating the procedure for the submission of term paper and the deadlines.

1. Select a broad subject area of your interest from the courses that are available to you in the current term: 19th August
2. Select of Supervisor from the faculty teaching in your section: 19th August
3. Submit the topic and the supervisor name to the section co-ordinator. If this is not done within the specified time, on or before the last date, a penalty of 10 marks shall be imposed. : 20th August
4. You shall be given three weeks time to source material on the selected topic, understand the topic and submit a synopsis. If the synopsis is not submitted, you loose another 10 marks.: 10th Sept
5. Get the same approved by your supervisor and get his signature on the synopsis. Keep a copy with you and submit another copy to the supervisor: 14th Sept
6. You will get another two weeks to submit the rough draft of the report. If you fail to submit the draft report, you loose another 20 marks: 30th Sept
7. The report shall be evaluated by your supervisor and shall be returned back with the comments, within next two weeks (maximum). : 26th Oct
8. You are supposed to submit the final draft of the report within a week's time of getting back the evaluated report. If this is not submitted, you loose 20 more marks.: 9th Nov
9. Prepare a presentation on your topic and present the same to the panel of examiners (supervisor and another faculty member. The date shall be informed to you by the supervisor. If the presentation is not done on the date specified date, you stand to loose another 10 marks.: 16th - 27th Nov
10. Note: One faculty teaching in your section shall be taking a maximum of 10-12 students under him, not more.
11. Total marks for the Term Paper is 100 (60 internal and 40 external).

Requirements Class term Project

CVL213 (FM) all sections: CA Grading Policy

Distribution of CA grades, 30% of your total course grade) will be as follows:

1. If your class attendance is less than 75% by the last day of the class, your CA will be 0.

2.  5 points each from the best 4, out of 6, class quizzes score.

3. Quiz and Tutorials will be held alternatively, with the quiz following the tutorial, in the tutorial class.

Content of the quiz will be: Tutorial questions, Assignment Questions and Lectures content covered between each successive quiz.  

4. Term Project 33% of the CA :

A group work of maximum 3 students and minimum 2 students. You are allowed to select your own group members but you need to obtain confirmation from me for the project.

One partial report before MTE and the final report a week before the ETE has to be submitted.

A presentation has to be made after the submission of the final report. Grading of presentation will be equal weight for: Design, Delivery, Content and Viva.

Presentation will be graded by 3 members including myself.

There might be changes to the section of the students. This shall be effective, once the final result of the special term is declared and we get the final list of students who have been promoted to the second year. We might also be reducing the number of sections, if there are not sufficient students. Till then, the sections as specified shall run and the students shall be in the respective sections, as decided and displayed through the earlier blog.

No request of change of section shall be entertained, in any case. However, consideration may be given for girl students, if there is only one girl in a specific section.

Different sheet have different sections. The highlighted students have failed to attain the minimum cgpa of 4.5 and have not been promoted to the second year. 

Their names shall be updated once they clear through the backlog/ improvement examination. However, they can attend the classes, if they feel, they can attain the minimum cgpa. If not, they can attend first year classes/ trimester (as the case be), but only after registration in the respective course.
